Life on tour is notoriously grueling, and this tour (with such an abundance of high-profile performers and support staff) proves to be no exception. Surprisingly, the egos of the performers seem reasonably under control; the driving motor of the entire event is Roc-A-Fella Records CEO Damon Dash, who rants to great effect--in one entertaining sequence, as someone fruitlessly tries to shave Dash's head, Dash vents at length about how everyone is wearing jackets publicizing Def Jam instead of Roc-A-Fella. Backstage depicts naked groupies, drug use, internal squabbles, and hardly a sentence goes by that isn't filled with obscenities or epithets, but the rappers come across as a surprisingly genial, friendly lot just enjoying themselves. Jay-Z is particularly charming, but rapper Beanie Sigel has the sharpest comments to make as he describes the treatment of demo tapes at record labels. Automatic or Sound-Activated The Techno Strobe 2000S has two modes of operation: sound-activated and automatic, selected via a switch on the rear of the unit. When operating in sound activated mode, the strobe is triggered by music or other nearby audio, with an adjustable sensitivity level. In automatic mode, the speed control will adjust the flash rate. Linkable An optional 1/4-inch mono plug from Chauvet allows for linking this model of strobe. When linking strobes, there is a maximum of 8 strobes per chain, and the first strobe will act as a master. Controller-Ready CHAUVET also offers a large verity of strobe controllers and controllers that have the capability of operating this strobe. The Elation DP-415 is a 4-channel portable dimmer/switch pack with 8 - 3-prong Edison sockets (2 for each channel) controlling up to 8 fixtures. Each output channel contains dual 15-amp Edison sockets that allow for 2 devices to be plugged into a single channel. Each channel on the DMX dimmer can then be controlled via standard DMX-512 signal by adjusting a relevant channel fader on your DMX console. The dip switches on the face of the DMX lighting control allow you to set the DMX patch address and operation mode for the pack. Standard binary code should be used to set your DMX patch address. Dip switch 10 is the "Mode" switch. The setting of this switch determines the pack's operation mode, either as a dimmer or switch pack. It also has 4-channel output LEDs, which allow you to view active channels. When the Elation DP-415 dimmer is set to dim mode, these LED lights dim in real time as the relevant channel is adjusted. A DMX signal indicator LED is also incorporated so that when DMX signal is present, the LED illuminates. The built-in hanging bracket is reversible to hang on a truss or can be used with a clamp.
